Rachel Njinimbam, Champion for Change.
At PPL, we know that our strength lies within our diverse team and their commitment to making a difference. Rachel Njinimbam, our Supervising Support Broker in New Jersey, is a shining example of this and shows us how one person’s actions can help change the world. She is creating a legacy that is impacting many lives in both the US and West Africa for the better, and we are proud to call her a team member and to share her story.
A Life Dedicated to Service and Empowerment
Rachel’s journey at PPL started in July 2017, after graduating from Columbia University where she earned her Master of Social Science Work. She was drawn to join us as our company values aligned closely with her personal values of service and making an impact. Rachel says that she has always had a place in her heart and a deep desire to help the disadvantaged.
I made the concious decision to join the PPL team as the mission aligned with my values of serving, giving back, and making an impact in my community.”
At PPL Rachel uses her passion for social justice and community development to help individuals navigate complex public service systems. She advocates for clients’ needs and ensures that they receive the resources to allow them to thrive in their homes and communities. Her approach is personal and reflects her belief that everyone deserves respect, support, and the opportunity to achieve their potential.
A Global Ambassador for Children’s Rights
While this alone is impressive and her impact is felt strongly in New Jersey, Rachel’s passion to help extends globally.
In 2011, she was named the Ambassador for Liberian Children in the United States, by then Ambassador, Jeremiah Sulunteh. Motivated by the challenges faced by underprivileged children in her home country, Rachel founded The Alpha Omega Children’s Foundation (AOCF). Through her work, she has provided disadvantaged children with access to education, medical care, and basic necessities, empowering them to rise above their circumstances.
I am a woman who believes in impacting the lives of children. Orphans, and those living with disabilities…they don’t have people advocating for them. I wanted to be that voice to advocate for resources and policy changes.”
A Mission of Compassion
Under her leadership, the AOCF began an Annual Easter Children’s Program. This program has transformed the lives of over 3,000 children across Liberia since 2021. By providing scholarships, safe drinking water, and nutritional support, the foundation addresses immediate needs while investing in the children’s futures.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rachel led efforts to distribute essential supplies and health information. In 2022, her organization began a Beauty Day Project, where staff provided makeovers for girls to help boost their confidence. Additionally, AOCF conducts shoe and clothing drives every July and December.
Blending Roles for Broader Impact
Rachel says her work at PPL increases her ability to lead her foundation successfully. Her public service skills, such as program management, advocacy, and strategic planning, strengthen her 501 (c)(3) endeavors. While her work in Africa provides practical insights on delivering aid, which she brings back to her role at PPL, enriching her approach to community support.
Rachel believes that making a lasting impact starts with conviction in your dreams and finding the right support network. She admits that running a non-profit has its challenges, sharing,
My advice to others is to write down your ideas, seek out supportive peers, and never give up on your mission. Leadership involves perseverance, motivation, and continual self-encouragement.”
Her story reminds us that with passion and perseverance, we can all help make the world a better place. To learn more about the Alpha Omega Children’s Foundation and how you can support their initiatives, visit Rachel’s website.
