City Limits: (Opinion) New York’s Home Care Program Has Brought My Daughter & I Closer
By PPL on August 13, 2026
Karol Davis has called New York City home her whole life. Born in Manhattan and now proudly living in the Bronx, she manages a number of chronic health conditions, but she has never let that stop her from living life on her own terms.
Through New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), Karol’s daughter serves as her personal assistant, which allows her to dedicate her time fully to her mother’s care and provide a level of consistent, one-on-one support that wouldn’t otherwise be sustainable. Karol recently shared their story in City Limits, and it is a meaningful look at what self-direction makes possible, not just for the people who receive care, but for the families providing it.
A special thank you to our CDPAP facilitator partner, Royal Care, for supporting Karol and her daughter throughout this journey.
