What is self-directed care?
When you enroll in the CA self-determination program (SDP), you choose who provides your support, and control other aspects of your care. You can hire a family member, friend, or another worker of your choosing. If a family member is already helping you, they can probably get paid. You become the employer of your worker, and also decide how to spend the money you receive from the program. We think it’s a better option for almost everyone over traditional home care agencies.

What does PPL do?
In California, participants in self-determination care programs are required to use a financial management services (FMS) company such as ours. We assist with many aspects of your self-determination journey.

SDP Network

The SDP Network connects Self-Determining Californians with independent facilitators and other service providers. With this system, users can either join the network as a provider or can search for a provider that fits their needs.

You can: 

Select services and support to meet your needs.

Decide how much to pay for services, and negotiate within your budget.

Work with an independent facilitator to develop a person-centered plan and spending plan. 

Find, hire, manage, and dismiss your workers.

Use PPL@Home to review your budget and approved services.

Use PPL@Home to monitor your worker’s hours and spending.

Use Time4Care to review, approve, and submit your worker’s timesheets.

Services include

Payroll – We process payroll for your worker using money from your budget.

Employment tax requirements – We handle all employment-related taxes for you, including federal, state, local, and unemployment.

Monthly budget managementWe help you keep your spending on track. 

Enrollment support – We help you and your worker with enrollment and training through your enrollment specialist,

Customer service – Our friendly and professional customer service agents are available five days a week to help you with any questions.

Monthly reports – With our monthly reports, you’ll always have a clear picture of the services you’ve received.
